A 19-year-old Mankato man has been sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for a fatal shooting last December. Guenther Boone Jr. was given a 367-month sentence Monday in Blue Earth County District Court after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 31-year-old Darious Dashon Johnson.

The shooting happened in the 500 block of East Walnut Street on December 21, 2024, at around 3 a.m. According to court documents, Boone entered a vehicle outside his residence during what witnesses described as a marijuana cartridge deal, then shot Johnson, who was seated in the passenger seat. The driver fled to Grove Street, where Johnson was later found dead.

Boone was initially indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder and firearms violations, but reached a plea agreement in which those charges were dismissed. He admitted to planning to rob the driver and later confessed to the shooting. Boone will serve his sentence at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
