- A new report from Explore Minnesota finds international travel to the state remains low. It shows a slowdown in air travel and international visits from April through August. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport saw a 2.8 percent drop, or about 500,000 fewer travelers, compared to 2024. Business activity also declined for more than half of tourism-related businesses in the state. Fifty-one percent of participating businesses reported a downturn, while 30 percent saw an increase. Canadian travel to Minnesota has taken a notable hit, with arrivals down 18 percent through August.
- State Lawmakers are still waiting for a special session on gun violence in Minnesota. D-F-L Senator Heather Gustafson of Vadnais Heights says they could put more funding into mental health and talk about school safety, but the debate also needs to address guns. Republican Senator Michael Kreun (krune) of Blaine says some action could be taken now. He says one example could be extending safe school funding to non-public schools. G-O-P leaders say they don’t want to vote on banning assault-style rifles or high-capacity magazines.
