The City of Eagle Lake has announced a public hearing to consider a rezoning request for property located at 404 South Agency Street (Parcel R12.10.18.180.022). The parcel, currently zoned B-1 (Business District), has drawn questions from residents about why it remains commercial despite surrounding residential development. According to city officials, the property owner is requesting a change to R-3 or R-4 (Multi-Family Residential District) zoning to allow for the construction of multi-family housing.

The public hearing will take place on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 705 Parkway Avenue. Residents are encouraged to attend or submit written comments ahead of the meeting. Notices have been published in the city’s official newspaper, posted at City Hall, and mailed to property owners within 350 feet of the site.

City staff also shared preliminary data on housing and commercial growth in Eagle Lake. Between 2022 and the present, construction permits indicate 41 single-family units, 106 multi-family units, and one new commercial project. These figures are considered preliminary as staff continue to review permit records from the past four years.
