Minnesota State-Mankato Cadet named ROTC All-American Scholarship Finalist
Minnesota State University-Mankato Army Cadet Ryan Starkey was selected as a finalist for the Navy Federal Credit Union ROTC All-American Scholarship Program. He’s pursuing bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and law enforcement, and was selected as cadet first sergeant and squad leader. He’s described as the leading example of why the Maverick Battalion at Minnesota State-Mankato was recognized as the #1 battalion for commissioning rate across an 11 state region.
Cadet Starkey also oversees 36 freshman and sophomore students—helping create a safe campus environment. He routinely connects his floor residents with tutors and counseling center professionals. Cadet Starkey also found time to join the University’s Student Criminal Justice Club to learn from the vast network of professionals in the field.
This scholarship program honors the best and brightest ROTC seniors across the nation and highlights rising senior ROTC students who best embody the pillars of the program: Leadership, Military Excellence, Scholarship and Service. As a finalist, Cadet Starkey receives a $2,500 scholarship, and Minnesota State University-Mankato’s ROTC Booster Club or Student Fund receives a $1,500 donation.
From the 15 finalists, Navy Federal will select and honor the top Air Force, Army and Navy/Marine students as the three ROTC All-American Scholarship Program Students of the Year. The Students of the Year will be announced in early December and will each receive a $6,500 scholarship, a $5,000 donation to their Booster Club or Student Fund, be honored guests of the Go Bowling Military Bowl on December 27 and featured on ESPN’s broadcast of the game.
