Minnesota State Mankato Names Roy Kammer Dean of College of Allied Health and Nursing
Minnesota State University, Mankato Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs David Hood announced that Roy Kammer has been named dean of the University’s College of Allied Health and Nursing after a national search. Kammer’s appointment was effective June 3.
Kammer has more than 25 years of professional experience across higher education, counseling, prevention and student affairs and has served Minnesota State Mankato as both an administrator and faculty member.
Kammer was appointed interim dean of the University’s College of Allied Health and Nursing on Jan. 28 and before that was interim associate dean of the college since May 2024.
Kammer was an MSU faculty member from August 2021 until May 2024, serving as an assistant professor of health science, alcohol and drug studies for two years before being promoted to associate professor. Kammer was also an assistant professor of health science, alcohol and drug studies at MSU from 2006 until 2013.
“Dr. Kammer has served Minnesota State University, Mankato with distinction across faculty and administrative roles, most recently as interim dean of the College of Allied Health and Nursing,” said Hood. “In this role, he has provided oversight for five community-facing clinics—including the Rural Behavioral Health Clinic, Dental Clinic, Health Commons at Pond, Center for Sport and Performance Psychology, and the Center for Communication Sciences and Disorders—while strengthening partnerships across campus and throughout Minnesota.”
Kammer’s professional experience includes serving at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies (now Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School) in Center City, Minnesota, where he was dean with the rank of associate professor from 2013 to 2021. He also served as an addiction counselor for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in 2021. Kammer was executive director of the Minnesota Certification Board from October 2020 to August 2021. He was a faculty member and teaching specialist for three years (2021-2024) for the University of Minnesota’s College of Continuing and Professional Studies.
Kammer earned a doctorate in educational administration/adult and higher education, a master’s degree in educational psychology and counseling and a bachelor’s degree in allied health, all from the University of South Dakota. He also has a master’s degree in pastoral ministries from Mount Marty College (now Mount Marty University).
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,721 students, is part of the Minnesota State system, which includes 26 colleges and seven universities.
