MSU’s Matt Magers Named NCBWA Division II National Baseball Coach of the Year

DALLAS – Minnesota State baseball Head Coach Matt Magers was named the 2025 NCBWA Division II National Coach of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Magers led the Mavericks to a 51-8 overall record, which tied the program record for wins in a season.

Minnesota State also went 36-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games to win the 2024-25 NSIC Regular Season title. With five wins in the conference tournament, the Mavericks won their ninth tournament title on May 10 with a 5-4 win over Augustana in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Mavericks earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament and hosted five games at ISG Field in Mankato, May 15-18. The Mavericks fell to No. 16 ranked Pittsburg State in the Championship series 10-8 on May 18. Five players were named D2CCA All-Region and four players were named NCBWA All-Region.

Magers completed his 17th season as head coach in 2024-25. He has guided the Mavericks to seven NSIC regular season championships, eight postseason tournament titles, 15 NCAA tournament appearances and five NCAA regional first-place finishes. His teams have also made four trips to the Division II College World Series, where the Mavericks have placed second (2013), third (2014 and 2012) and seventh (2010). In 2013, Magers was named NCBWA National Coach of the Year.

Magers holds a 676-216-1 record over his 17 seasons at the helm (30th in wins among active Division II coaches). Minnesota State baseball has made 43 NCAA tournament appearances. Magers was assisted this season on the staff by P.J. McInteePacky Casey, and Tink Larson.
