Pavement work scheduled on Watonwan County Road 3 near Madelia starting June 30
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin pavement and shoulder improvements on Watonwan County Road 3, just east of Madelia, on Monday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 1 (during daytime hours), weather permitting.
With Highway 60 currently under construction through Lake Crystal, Highway 169, Blue Earth County Road 13, and Watonwan County Road 3 serve as the designated detour route, resulting in increased traffic volumes along these roadways.
MnDOT will resurface a 1.5-mile section of Watonwan County Road 3 to improve the roadway surface and shoulders for motorists.
Traffic impacts (see attached map):
- Eastbound traffic will remain on the existing detour route (County Road 3, to County Road 13, to Highway 169). Flaggers will assist vehicles through the work zone.
- Westbound traffic will be detoured north on Blue Earth County Road 32 to Highway 60, then continue west.
Motorists should watch for flaggers, expect brief delays, and stay alert.
The ongoing Highway 60 Lake Crystal project includes reconstructing the highway from Blue Earth County Road 20 to Blue Earth County Road 112, utility replacement in coordination with the City of Lake Crystal, bridge repairs, intersection improvements, a new pedestrian trail, and lighting installation.
