South Central College will host its Inaugural Transfer Student Signing Day on Tuesday, June 23, for new students preparing to start their bachelor’s degree at SCC before transferring to a university. The event will take place at the college’s North Mankato campus, 1920 Lee Blvd., and is designed for students enrolling this fall in an Associate of Arts or Transfer Pathway degree program.

“Starting at South Central College is a smart step toward earning a bachelor’s degree,” said South Central College President Ritu Raju. “Transfer Student Signing Day recognizes that decision and helps students get started with confidence.”

Participants will sign a letter of intent, connect with faculty and staff, and complete advising and registration all in one day. Students who attend and meet eligibility criteria may receive a $500 scholarship through the South Central College Foundation. Advance registration is required by Friday, June 19. Details on SCC’s transfer options and event registration are available at www.southcentral.edu under “Upcoming Events.”

Lucy Obuba, who is pursuing a Biology Transfer Pathway associate degree at SCC and plans to transfer to Minnesota State University to earn her bachelor’s degree in biology, shared her experience: “SCC gave me the opportunity to begin my college journey in a supportive and engaging environment. I would highly recommend SCC to anyone looking for a high-quality, affordable, and accessible start to their college journey.”

South Central College offers 10 Transfer Pathway programs: Accounting, Biology, Business, Communication Studies, Early Childhood Education, Economics, English, History, Pre-Social Work and Psychology. These structured programs are designed to align with university requirements, allowing students to follow a clear course sequence for a specific major and transfer seamlessly into the next stage of their bachelor’s degree.

Camryn McNicol, who graduated in spring 2026 with a Pre-Social Work Transfer Pathway associate degree and began attending Minnesota State Mankato this summer, reflected on her transition: “I used to feel intimidated by the idea of a big university, but SCC’s supportive environment changed that. My instructors were always available, genuinely invested in my success, and prepared me to transfer with confidence.”

For students who are weighing different bachelor’s degree options, South Central College also offers an Associate of Arts degree, a flexible program that allows them to explore interests while completing courses that satisfy university general education requirements.

Neely Gunn, who worked in accounting for 17 years and took community college courses earlier in her career, said returning to college was a significant step and highlighted the support she received at SCC:
“My advisors at South Central College have been so helpful. They helped me map out what would transfer to SCC and what I needed to complete my associate of arts degree. My student advisor also connected me with the sports management program coordinator at the university I plan on transferring to, paving the way for a smooth transition. I liked starting at SCC because the class sizes are small, so faculty and staff get to know you; you’re not just a face in the crowd.”

The Signing Day schedule includes opportunities for students and families to engage with campus resources and prepare for the upcoming academic year:

  • 10–11 a.m.: Optional visits with representatives from Minnesota State universities
  • 11 a.m.–noon: Official signing ceremony
  • Noon–1 p.m.: Lunch with faculty and peers
  • 1–3 p.m.: Advising and registration
  • 1:45–2:30 p.m.: Optional parent information session covering financial aid and other topics
