United Way Reading Festival Offers Free Kids’ Books, Activities: Nov. 15
Children and families are invited to Greater Mankato Area United Way’s annual Reading Festival from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 15 at the Mankato Family YMCA Blue Gym.
The free event is sponsored by Capstone and features local organizations hosting children’s activities to promote literacy and celebrate reading.
The Reading Festival includes free Capstone books, activity/craft stations for Pre-K through 3rd-graders, and literacy information for parents. All children welcome.
This year’s event is themed “Win with Reading.”
Participating organizations include: Ampact – Reading & Math Corps, Blue Earth County Library, Capstone, Children’s Museum of Southern MN, Families First of MN, Greater Mankato Area United Way, Greater Mankato Diversity Council, Good Counsel Learning Center, LSS Crisis Nursery, Mankato Clinic, Mankato Family YMCA, Mankato Area Public Schools Early Learning, Minnesota Valley Action Council, MNSU Center for Communication Sciences & Disorders, MNSU Rec N Read, North Mankato Taylor Library, Profinium Bank, Sensory Services of Southern Minnesota, YWCA Mankato.
The Reading Festival is an initiative of United Way’s Books for Kids program:
Books for Kids is a Greater Mankato Area United Way program designed to instill the joy and benefits of reading in children by providing free books and developmental resources. Each year, Books for Kids distributes nearly 30,000 Capstone books to children in Greater Mankato Area United Way’s service area of Blue Earth, Le Sueur, Nicollet, and Waseca counties.
