  • State Senator Justin Eichorn (IKE’-horn) of Grand Rapids could be charged today (Wed) with soliciting a minor for prostitution. The 40-year-old Republican was arrested Monday in Bloomington for arranging to meet with a 17-year-old girl for sex – but was met by a police detective. Eichorn was transported from Bloomington to the Hennepin County jail on Tuesday. Democrat and Republican leaders call on Eichorn to step down from the Minnesota Senate. Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said in a statement, “As a 40-year-old man if you come to the Orange Jumpsuit District looking to have sex with someone’s child, you can expect that we are going to lock you up.”
  • Minnesota schools could soon have the option to start the school year before Labor Day. A House bill would allow school boards to make the decision for the next two years. Minnesota students must attend 165 days every school year, but the bill’s author, DFL Representative Cheryl Youakim (you-AH-keem) of Hopkins, says 44 other states require more days in the classroom. Resort owners spoke out against the bill, saying that one-third of their annual budget comes from the month of August, and losing days before Labor Day weekend would be a crushing blow to their business.
