- This Saturday afternoon, members of Indivisible St. Peter/Greater and surrounding areas will stand along Madison Avenue in Mankato to protest the Trump Administration’s cuts to federal and state programs. Demonstrators will be holding signs and wearing costumes, to draw attention to the massive cuts in services such as Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, early education, emergency response, medical research, and more. Indivisible member Barb Keith says “We cannot just let Trump and the Republicans get away with gutting these vital programs.”
- 10 of 20 small buildings on the Renaissance Festival grounds in Shakopee were destroyed following a fire Thursday evening. Fire officials say crews from 12 departments battled the flames, but they were hard to contain due to a lack of water supply in the area. There were no injuries. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is helping local investigators determine the cause. Lightning was reported in the Shakopee area around that time.
- The 2025 Minnesota Legislature may have to pick up its pace after getting off to a slow start with a nearly month-long boycott by DFL House members. State legislators face a May 19th deadline to approve a budget. So far, they’ve only passed four bills in four months. In the 2023 budget year, lawmakers passed 26 bills by mid-April under one-party control by Democrats. When legislators return to work after the Easter/Passover break next week, they will have 28 days left to complete a nearly 70 billion two-year budget for 2026-27.
