Age-Friendly Mankato and North Mankato Community Open Houses
Community members are invited to attend one of the Age-Friendly Mankato and North Mankato Community Open Houses on Tuesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 21 from 3-6 p.m. and provide feedback.
In 2023, VINE launched an Age-Friendly initiative with grant support from the Minnesota Department of Human Services and Age-Friendly Minnesota to help make Greater Mankato a more inclusive, livable community for older adults. Since then, VINE has worked closely with city leaders, healthcare providers, and community organizations to develop a plan that prioritizes social participation, respect and inclusion, and better communication for aging adults.
Through a community survey and focus groups the Age-Friendly Mankato and North Mankato Coalition discovered many residents feel Greater Mankato is a good place to age, however challenges like isolation, lack of awareness of resources, and barriers for people with disabilities remain. By focusing on these areas first, the group aims to build a stronger foundation for future efforts.
Community members are invited to learn more about the age-friendly work and share their feedback at one of these open houses:
- Tuesday, May 20, 3–6 p.m. at the North Mankato Police Annex
- Wednesday, May 21, 3–6 p.m. at the Blue Earth County Library
Community input will help shape the final action plan and the future of an Age-Friendly Mankato and North Mankato. More information about the Age-Friendly Community Open Houses can be found online at vinevolunteers.org.
