Mankato Woman Charged After Stealing Deposits
A Mankato woman was charged for stealing deposits from the business she worked at. Kelly Marie Horvat of Mankato was charged in Blue Earth County District Court Thursday with 1 Felony count of Theft of Movable Property without consent carrying a maximum Sentence of 5 years and/or $10,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint: On July 1, 2024, at approximately 2:17 PM, Mankato Department of Public Safety was dispatched on a report of an internal theft at a coffee shop in the City of Mankato. A witness was reporting an internal theft involving the general manager of the coffee shop who was identified as Kelly Marie Horvat. The witness stated that Horvat had been taking money from the deposits she was supposed to be making at the bank. The total loss was reported at $4,584.40. During conversations Horvat admitted to another witness that she had stolen cash deposits that she was supposed to bring to the bank as part of her job. Horvat stated she would use later deposits to cover the stolen cash from earlier deposits. Horvat admitted to stealing deposits eight days in a row from June 16, 2024 to June 23, 2024. A recorded interview was conducted at the Public Safety Center. During the interview, Horvat admitted that while she was the general manager of the coffee shop she had taken money that she was supposed to deposit at the bank.
