One of the legislative priorities identified during last month’s Minnesota Farmers Union Convention involves climate resilience in agriculture.  One of the ways the M-F-U wants to help is by creating a guide to help farmers navigate the carbon markets and negotiate contracts:

“If farmers can get private money for delivering the ecosystem services for the public good that they do through implementing new practices on their farm and taking on some risks in terms of affecting their yields and the like, that’s great.”

Government relations director Stu Lourey says this is an ongoing process and many producers who are conservation-minded should be able to find a market in carbons.
