MN Seeing Uptick In Sextortion Schemes Targeting Teen Boys
(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota is seeing an uptick in sextortion schemes targeting teenage boys. That’s according to the State’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Thieves typically target boys age ten to 17 on social media or gaming sites, posing as young girls to get explicit images of the victims. Then, they threaten to post the photos unless the victims pay a ransom. Officials called it “straight up blackmail” and urged parents to talk to their kids about online stranger danger.
