Structure Fire in Mankato Monday

A Mankato home was damaged by fire Monday. Firefighters and first responders say they had difficulties putting out the blaze due to the position of the residence. The homeowner and their dog escaped safely. Monday night, fire crews worked for several hours to extinguish the blaze at N. 7th Street in Mankato around 9:15 Monday night.
Much of the rear side of the house was on fire. The home is located on the side of a hill.
The fire caused an estimated $120,000 in damage to the house. An investigation into the cause is being conducted.
